BIRCH HILL FARM Bebbington Road Ashford, CT | For over sixty years, the Piecyk family has been farming at the top of Birch Hill
near the corner of Bebbington and Slade Roads in Ashford, Connecticut. At Birch
Hill Farm, Peter and Jean have been making syrups for over fifteen years. We
started with maple syrup--today, our sugar shack produces over forty gallons each
winter. We tap an average of forty trees per year, and have cultivated our forest
to favor our beautiful sugar maples.
In the last few years, we've branched out. Taking advantage of our fertile raspberry, blueberry, and strawberry crops, we produce a variety of syrups perfect for topping pancakes or waffles--even ice cream! We also make jams and jellies. Our latest hit has been a bumper crop of Triple Crown blackberries. We also grow a variety of sweet corn which we bring to the market "picked fresh". Stop by our stand at the Ashford Farmers' Market for our syrups, jams, jellies, berries, and corn, or contact us at birchhill@sbcglobal.net. |

| CRANBERRY HILL FARM 158 Nagy Road Ashford, CT 06278 | Cranberry Hill Farm is named for the wild cranberry bog that occupies a portion of the farm. Although we do not harvest the cranberries, we encourage their growth to serve as a food source for the ducks that migrate through our area every fall.
Our small farm is a diverse grouping of habitats from open hayfield to wooded forest, from riparian to early successional. We are committed to farming in a sustainable manner and feel responsible for stewarding this land for the time we are here. In 2005 we were named a "Heritage Farm" by the (now defunct) New England Heritage Breeds Conservancy due to our interest in raising heritage breeds of livestock and heirloom varieties of vegetables and flowers |
